Their is a breed of horse from Russia called Akhal-Teke. It can go for days without food or water.Many breeds have different resources. Like smaller horses and taller horse they both have different resources. Faster horse eat and drink more then slower and smaller horses. Sometimes a herd of horses live some where that other horses wouldn't dare to go, but it's only because the resources.
