Tools of the Trade
Ok, for grooming you need a horse comb and brush, horse pick, curry comb or a rubber curry. Now use the horse comb to do the mane and tail. Then use the horse pick to pick out the hoofs. Next use the curry comb to brush the dirt off the horse's body. If you want to give your horse a shower just get horse shampoo and conditioner. Only put the horse soap on the mane and tail, gently wash and rinse. Soap can dry out the horses skin and make the coat dull. So, just rinse the body of the horse without the soap. They don't need to be lathered up. The mane and tail get a light shampooing and conditioning. Afterwards, use a small towel to dry your horse as much as you can.
Next the bridle and saddle. First the bridle, there is three important things on the bridle. The flash, caveson, and the throat latch. Always do the throat latch before the caveson. And you may chose to do the flash or caveson last. The picture below is the girth, it's what you hook the saddle to. After you buckle the saddle and the girth together, you put the ends through the loop holders. [the picture below shows a western bridle].

ReplyDeleteYou do the Bridle last. you groom first, put saddle blanket on, then saddle, then the bridle.
